Chicago: The Queen City Of Destiny
EOM Ida Mingle
Chicago is the City of Destiny of the western
continent. It is destined to become the center of governmental
power. When it shall be established outwardly, as the Center of
governmental power, in which the capital of the United States is
to be set up, it cannot be said, for the laws that govern the
destiny of races do not answer to the query, "When?"
But the record is written and it is infallible. The name of
Chicago will be changed at that time, and be known as the City of
EOM the Queen City of the world.
A few years ago the Laws that govern the people
and the universe set down their mystic scroll upon the people of
the United States, with Chicago as the Central Throne of Power. A
librarian at that time revealed the fact, that in the
civilizations that have passed, the site upon which Chicago now
makes her triumphant debut in the American civilization was the
seat of the City of Bab. Bab means "father," Father is
the opposite pole of mother, and as King would invariably, in the
law of polarity, invite his Queen. So in the destiny of cities,
representing the coordinated consciousness of racial forces
progressed to a certain finish, Chicago becomes the City of EOM.
A Queen City endowed with super powers.
A common sense view point would single out
Chicago as a fitting central matrix for the capital of the United
States. This view point would have to be based upon scientific
law in order to reconcile the many forces that now make up the
consciousness of Chicago, the SHE-EGO of civilization. Where
diversity of forces merge and are subjected to the controlling
One, there will be found the totality of all. The One revealed is
always consciousness as the governing Laws meant it to be,
whether it be revealed as an individual or a consciousness of a
city or of a race.
Chicago is today, in the western continent, and
to all the world, what the old Jerusalem was to the civilizations
at Christ's First Coming, a Center of controlling Power. This
Power does not issue from Chicago as a city of many people, but
from the consciousness of her forces subjected to the authority
of Divine Laws that control the destiny of the race and the
universe. The mystic scroll, set down upon the people of the
United States in November, 1922, the first month of the first
Year I AM, chose Chicago as the center of the New Jerusalem, the
throne from which would emanate the governing powers of the
Creation. This emanation is not as by the material forces that
make up the outward city of Chicago, but as by the Spiritual
Qualities of consciousness pivoted to the city, which is the
Throne of Power. That this Throne would be under the rulership of
the Queen Principle of Creation is quite in keeping with the
feminine name applied to cities; as well as signifying itself in
the western continent. The King Principle now has its second
appearance in the Queen Principle, this union having the power to
control all forces of two, equal and opposite, for the
accomplishment of the Divine Will and purpose of the race.
No one needs repel the application of governing
Principles to the outer things. The visible things, whether
people, cities or nations, have their existence because of
underlying Principles, but all progression is for the effect of
the Principles, and not for the people, cities and nations. They
but share the glory of the unfolding Laws of Creation when they
are conformed to the purpose and will of these Laws. The creation
is not a far-off mystical power, but the unfolding Principles and
Laws governing Man and the universe. It is the Creator that
introduces Its powers at the ends of civilizations, decreeing
what shall be, as well as bringing to cessation all that has been
that is not capable of transition to a New Order.
The Progression of the City of Chicago
A City is the coordination of the forces of
many states of consciousness, relating to spirit, soul, mind and
body. It is a great mixture that requires stamina of character
with which to cope. Yet, one who has conquered himself or herself
has conquered all cities and nations. City is a Center of
consciousness, while Country is the circumference. City is
unified while Country is diversified consciousness. Both have
their identification through a governing Intelligence that gives
us words, geographical positions, languages, continents, nations,
races; not as through some mystical act but as through a Law of
progression. Even as an ego adds or subtracts consciousness to
himself or herself, so the consciousness of a city is increased
or decreased.
When an phase of progression has reached its
limit of advancement, it must pass into a new state, being first
reduced to negation. If this is not possible, then it must pass
into nothingness and be numbered among that which is not.
Civilizations come and go, but the governing Laws are
omnipresent, shaping the destiny of all things according to the
purpose of attainment it has decreed. That Chicago receives the
New Name of a City, destined to become the Center in the American
civilization, implies her passover to a New State of Progression.
This transition is necessarily attended with the trial of
rebirth, incidental to putting off the old forces of
consciousness and to putting on the new.
Scientific research discloses that the oldest
land in the United States is in the region of the Great Lakes.
Archeologists have ventured to say that the Garden of Eden was at
one time located in this region, with the site of Chicago an
important point. This was before the time of the European
continent, in the misty ages of the past. Before the discovery of
America, the site of Chicago was a happy meeting ground for the
Indians. The Chicago Portage was one of the five great keys of
the continent. Lake Michigan is the remnant of an ancient glacial
lake and the progression of the Lake is, traced through three
periods of time. Mound builders, as well as the Indians, have
left their trail. The Indians had their own name for Chicago.
They called the city "Che-cau-gou." Many authors claim
that Chicago means "Wild onions." The mystical meaning
of onion is; one. One is the Absolute, by which are all other
expressions. AGitchi-ka-go" is also a name applied to
Chicago, meaning "a thing great and strong."
Chicago spreads out, fan-like from Lake
Michigan. It is 25 1/2 miles long and 10 miles wide. It is built on
the very edge of Lake Michigan and is noted for its skyline, as
well as its shoreline. The shoreline of Chicago is 22 miles. Its
architectural beauty is instantly recognized by those accustomed
to the "Old World" beauty of buildings embracing both
masculine and feminine types especially in its church edifices.
From the spires of Catholic cathedrals to the dome of Christian
Science edifices, the architecture of the past rears its imposing
structures to the skies. That man is pointed heavenward by those
who preside over religious services is inspiring, if he is
instructed that the Kingdom of Heaven is within the
consciousness, and is to be revealed in the earth as the
Righteous State of Being.
One versed in the underlying Principles of
Divine Laws that reflect themselves in all things made can see
more than the things seen, discerning the nature of the Invisible
Creator by that which is made. When one perceives that the
Principles for which all outer things stand are in the
consciousness of Man, one lives in hope that the Temple of
Beauty, Man in his-her nature will manifest superseding all
visible things with harmony and righteousness. As the outer
things are built, so are the inner correspondences. Chicago, a
City in a Garden, as it is so often called, has a heavenly
correspondence in the nature of Man, that is bound to reveal
itself as the genuine advancement of the people, especially those
of the United States. Chicago is a picture of the world in
miniature. Every section of the globe, every racial strain, are
represented in its population. Here over one million Catholic,
about a half million Protestant and four hundred thousand Jews,
together with those classed as non-believers because not
affiliated with church organization dwell, in spirit and in body.
Chicago is noted for its free spirit, and many of those classed
as non-believers, so far as church affiliations count make up a
free spirit of progression, both as to Church and State, that
give support to the Real Church and State centered in the spirit
and body of Chicago's consciousness.
Through the burning of the City of Chicago, the
fire covering an area of 2,124 acres, thirty years of progression
was brought to ruins. The Spirit of the motto of Chicago, "I
Will," asserted itself, though the motto was not adopted
until 1892. Within two days after the fire people had resolved
that; "Chicago Shall Rise Again." The progression of
Chicago is divided into two epochs, "Before and After the
Fire." To a stranger, it may seem strange that every year
Chicago remembers her "Fire," and some part of the city
celebrates her rising again after the "Fire." Fire is a
very potent factor in chastening consciousness, and while it must
be within the consciousness as a Living Flame, to effect rebirth
and transition to higher planes of growth, the outer symbols
appear in the outworking of anything associated with the destiny
of the people. The literal Chicago Fire is but a symbol of the
chastening and purification through which the People of Chicago
pass in these closing days of the material order of progression,
without which the consciousness of the City could not be made to
function the triumph that the New City is to enjoy, and to share
with the world at large. The fire that burns up the dross of
materialistic control of the functions of Chicago, the trial
through which the City passes to uphold her civic honor in these
days, but outwardly reflect the inner chastening going on in that
which makes up the consciousness of the Great City.
If Chicago appears at this time to reflect
Babylon, instead of the New Name of the New Jerusalem, it is
quite in keeping with the biblical figure of the mingling of the
Spirit of Advancement with the chaos of the world In this very
mingling is a great mystery working out, for from the foundation
of the world Light has formed itself through the agency of
Darkness. Cosmos, as advanced Intelligence, mingles with the
spirit of Chaos, the darkness, forming that which manifests the
effect of the travail of progression, even as the darkness and
depth of the soil give fecundation to the seed planted in it, by
which the form preexistent in the seed is brought into
visibility. The many slams made at Chicago's wave of darkness,
measured in terms of crime, are without intelligent comprehension
of the fundamental Laws governing the progression of people.
Scientifically, Light is equal to darkness, and vice versa,
though opposite in character. People who gauge Chicago by the
darkness they discern (or hear about) must also discern that she
has an equivalent Light. The Creative Law gives preeminence to
the Light and makes Darkness a subsidiary, though darkness is an
agent that forces the growth of the Light and is the means by
which the forms reposing in the Light are brought into
visibility. Even so, the Light predominates in the City of
Chicago, now properly correlated to these underlying Laws and
made to work out at Center, a plan of progression that will
encompass the race with its influence.
However, it has been statistically proven that
the murder wave in Chicago is of no greater proportion,
considering, the size of the city than it is in other large
cities; in fact, not so much. The statistical report shows that
sixty-seven cities, with a population over 100,000, have more
capital crime. Only thirteen cities have a lower ratio of capital
crime per 10,000 inhabitants than has the city of Chicago.
Chicago does yet include within her scope of criminality
legalized capital punishment, which is always a mill grinding out
more murder when scientifically discerned. But capital punishment
will probably continue until capital is adjusted; and the New
Order of Righteous Government is set up, guaranteeing every
citizen the privilege of exercising his or her Seven Rights under
government, viz., Food, Clothing, Shelter, Recreation, Education,
Security, Peace; then the necessity of crime shall be abolished.
Chicago the Melting Pot of Nationalities
Americans, the racial strain that the United
States has produced in her centuries of progression, predominate
in the population of Chicago. Nearly a million Americans live and
move and have their being in the spirit of Chicago, and many of
these no doubt also have a similar activity in the underlying
Laws that have been bringing forth this particular racial strain,
which is the Salvation for all nations, when nations discover
their bondage's and desire to be genuinely free. In their order
of population, Chicago is made up of the Americans, Polish,
German, Irish, Italian, Russian, Swedish, Czechoslovakian,
English, Canadian, Lithuanian, Austrian, Norwegian, Yugoslavian,
Hungarian, Danish, Greek, Dutch, Romanian, Mexican, French,
Swiss, Belgian, Luxembourger, Finlanders, Latvian, Chinese,
Turks, Palestinian, Syrian, Japanese, Indian, Negro, and about
twenty thousand of mixed racial strains in addition to these
named, making a total of 3,376,438 people. What a wonderful array
of languages, significant of the diversified intelligence's of
the Word! Lest some one does not understand what the WORD means,
it is a name applied to the underlying Principles and Laws
governing the progression of the race. It means to speak. In its
speaking or emanating intelligence, it gave rise to languages,
and languages have their identifications in racial strains,
called Germans, French, Italian, etc.
The gathering of people from all nations to
Chicago is equivalent to bringing the connecting racial strains
of all nations to a given centralization, identifying a mighty
factor of racial intelligence to be coordinated and brought into
unity. It is as though the Creator in looking upon the City of
Chicago looks upon the whole world. (This should be seen as a
figure of speech for the Creator is not a person, having eyes and
ears and hands and feet, as men have, but is Principles and Laws
that stand for the qualities underlying these bodily members as
well as all formed things). But coordinating the forces of
consciousness that make up the City of Chicago into One is not so
difficult as it may appear, though this is a process on the
spiritual plane of development and is not a mass mind work. That
Chicago contains within her consciousness the highest advancement
of the spiritual in the eras of Time is as it should be, this
pivoting to Center the Qualities of the Word Itself, the
expression of the Word as languages, and the forms of expression
as the many racial strains. This unites the Spirit, Mind and Body
of consciousness, giving rise to conscious Consciousness and the
establishment of the City as the Soul of the race, and of the
world. Where the two factors of progression, spiritual and
material, are pivoted to one center, there is the fulfillment of
both, and there arise the spirit and form of the New Progression
to be manifested. The Queen City, the city of EOM is the
identified result of the polarization of all dual and opposite
forces.
Chicago is a replica of the whole United
States. She is the centralization of all racial strains gathered
in the United States. She becomes through her very position,
centrally, the Light and the Darkness of racial forces
progressing. The Twelve Tribes of Israel that make up all racial
strains of the world, are centralized under Benjamin, to eight
states of which Chicago is not only the central Center of Power,
but is a Universal Center as well. This will be understood by
those who enjoy tracing the progression of the Twelve Tribes in
the race. That these Tribes were disseminated into the European
civilization and later gathered in the United State is
significant of the Tree that is planted bringing forth its fruit.
In relation to races, there is always a transition of the racial
strains of an Old Order to the forces of the New Order, that they
may come properly under the governing Law for service to the
entire race.
This service is not as though people served in
word and in act, but through their existence and being. Chicago,
as her population shows, is made up of all national strains,
therefore is a fitting aggregation of racial forces by which the
Word, or Creative Law, can function to manifest its Fruit. This
Fruit is centrally manifested through those spiritually
progressing, though these must always be properly positioned and
supported by the racial forces relating.
Chicago is the sixth largest German city in the
world; the second largest Bohemian city, the second largest
Swedish city, the second largest Norwegian city, and the second
largest Polish city, though this changes with the census. Chicago
was incorporated as a city in 1833, and had an area of 2.8 square
miles, and a voting population of 28. It was situated in the
heart of a swampy territory covered with water ranging from two
inches to two feet deep the year round. Land sold for $1.25 per
acre and many freely predicted that the place would never amount
to much! Chicago has 11,285 persons to the square mile. The
population of the Chicago area, from Milwaukee, Wis. on the
north, to Rockford, Ill. on the west, and La Porte, Ind. on the
southeast, amounts to 6,388,000 people. The Chicago area proper,
which is the city itself, covers 210.5 square miles, or 133,800
acres. It is bounded on the east by Lake Michigan, a body of
fresh water, a fitting symbol of the Soul consciousness that is
ever expressing more of itself. East pertains to the spirit, when
related to the four departments of consciousness, and since the
east of Chicago is water, it signifies a soluble spirit, that
makes Chicago welcome progression and able to put off those
phases of progression that are outworn. Chicago has been called
the "Queen City of the Unsalted Seas."
The birthrate in Chicago has been gradually
declining since 1926, having dropped from 19.8 to 14 in 1932. The
story of birth control, as it operates in many countries and
cities today, is one that should be written separately. Chicago
put up a good fight for its birth control clinics, the Catholics
under their leadership opposing their establishment. Birth
control very necessarily has its place at this time in the race's
progression, and is not directly traceable to economic
conditions. The economic conditions are only an outer necessity
used to aid an inner necessity that is working out at the end of
Time or mortality. Since the seeds of mortality have been
cultivated, and brought to a certain fruition, by which a New
Order is identified for the entire race, how can mortal
reproduction continue to be prolific? It must come to a low point
pending the passover of those ready for the New Order, who pass
not by the law of material birth, but by the Law of mental and
spiritual rebirth. Consciousness cannot be confined to low planes
of mortal evolution and at the same time be prepared to cope with
the forces making for the establishment of Immortality. The
prediction that in 1942 there will be but six children born to a
thousand is not calamitous. The falling of the birth rate is
traced somewhat to lack of immigration, and the distribution of
birth control knowledge especially to those who reproduce rapidly
and live in squalor. Since these furnish the high percentage of
criminals, we can find solace in the fact that this current is
not allowed to assert itself at this changing time of the world.
The establishment of birth control clinics in Chicago was one of
the mystical wars by which the welfare of society is safeguarded,
but was also the supremacy of progression against that current of
the race that would hold a mass of people to low planes that
they, as religious and political leaders, may benefit themselves.
Chicago's death rate 9.75, was lowest in 1932.
Religious Progression
Chicago is a center of religious education.
Every phase of religious progression has identified itself in
Chicago, most of it in the Auditorium Building, whose Recital
Hall furnishes an excellent setting for public gatherings of less
than five hundred. The Auditorium Theater cares for the larger
crowds. Auditorium, signifies that relating to hearing. The
"ears" of Chicago have been well trained, for all ideas
pertaining to the advancement of people from spiritualistic
phenomenon to technocracy have found listening ears among the
people of Chicago.
Chicago has over 1,700 churches. Every faith
known to mankind is represented by them. It has two archdiocese,
Catholic and Episcopal. There are 1174 Protestant churches, 55
Catholic, 100 Jewish, and 171 other churches including 21
Christian Science churches. The Catholic membership amounts
approximately to 1,159,390, the Protestant to 429,265, and the
Jewish 400.000. Added to the church membership, there is a great
body of students who attend services of a more advanced nature,
having no church affiliation. Because the number of church
membership is in the minority is not a calamity, in this day of
advanced progression. While the more advanced do not have church
affiliation, they do devote all the forces of consciousness to
thinking, speaking, and living in keeping with Principles
governing the expression of Life, rendering a devotion to the
things of the Spirit that has never been found in church worship
or affiliation. These are not numbered among church goers in
Chicago nor in the United States, though they do in many
instances attend services devoted to the Principles of Life and
Truth. In reality, it is this current of consciousness in a city
or in a nation that controls the advancement of the people, being
centers through which the Qualities of Life and Truth can be
projected into the mass consciousness. This deals with the
mystical spiritual in contradistinction to the literal religious
that characterizes the religiously affiliated. The School of
Livable Christianity is supreme in the dissemination of the
Principles of Life and Truth, though necessarily directly
supported by a small group of people in the different nations of
the world. It is a scientific conclusion, that the higher any
message given, the fewer that can receive it.
Every religion of any character, organized or
unorganized, has centered to Chicago. Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy gave
lectures on Christian Science in Chicago in 1884 and in 1888. The
New Thought Religion had its beginning in Chicago, and spread,
throughout the country from this central nucleus, counterparting
the many phases of Protestantism. The Eucharistic Congress of the
Roman Catholic Church was held in Chicago in June, 1926 attended
by eight European cardinals, and bringing about one million
pilgrims to the city. The Dowie Movement, with John Alexander
Dowie who assumed the title of "Elijah," established
Zion City in the Chicago area. The, Koreshan Movement, later
established in Florida, had its inception in Chicago. Likewise
other movements of religion had their birth in Chicago, with
Chicago also being a central meeting point for lecturers and
people of philosophical tendencies.
In 1895 there was a church for every two
thousand inhabitants. This was somewhat offset by there being a
saloon for every two hundred. It is this factor of light and
darkness that has, scientifically led to the rapid building of
Chicago on all planes of its expression, though this would have
to be understood from fundamental Creative Law to be appreciated.
In the degree that light and darkness are agitating, there is
growth. Where there is no agitation there is inertia, lethargy,
and lack of progression. Chicago is cooperative in its religious
spirit rather than antagonistic. Its Federation of Churches
includes all phases of religious thought. The meeting together on
the part of Catholics, Protestants, and Jews, when occasion
warrants, is not unusual. The World Parliament of Religions was
held at the World's Fair in 1893. Its motto was "Ye shall
know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." By
setting up such a motto, the religious progression has set a goal
of attainment. If it could believe in the motto the whole
religious system would undergo a marked change, becoming a potent
factor of progression relating to the life of the nation; yet,
sentiments precede realities, and ideals are treasured in mind
before they are actualized in the life an and affairs.
The World Fellowship of Faiths will be held
during the "Century of Progress." The purpose of this
fellowship is "To unite the best inspiration available from
ALL FAITHS, upon the solution of MAN'S PRESENT PROBLEMS."
"Faiths" is understood to include all religions and all
social movements making significant contributions to human
welfare.
This World Fellowship of Faiths will convene in
Chicago, during August, September, and October, 1933. Some of the
problems to be discussed are, "Poverty Amidst Plenty: How
Cure It?" "The Depression - What Light Can My Faith
Shed Upon It?" "Shall Man or Money Be Master?"
"How to Expand Patriotism into World Consciousness?"
Disarmament," and kindred other subjects are booked for
discussion. Action is aimed at, with a development of world-wide,
fraternal unity of life. All this is commendable, but,
scientifically no religionist can talk on these subjects without
having a fundamental unfoldment of Truth based upon an unfoldment
of the Governing Principles in the Life. If one has this, he or
she is not a religionist but a lover of the Truth. Yet, any step
leading to a higher direction is to be encouraged, but the time
is short for expressing experimental ideas and those based on
hope.
The Hall of Religion at the "Century of
Progress," will represent all creeds. Religious relics, past
and present, will be on exhibition. It is estimated the Hall of
Religion will cost $75,000 to complete. It will house all phases
of religious progression, and reveal to the public that religion
has its place in racial development. Yet, this is only in outer
ways, for the genuine religious progression is measured by man's
capacity to live in conformity with governing Laws of Being, and
to become an agent in the Hands (Powers) of these Laws, by which
the Light gained is projected into the race. "I am the Light
of the world. Ye are the light of the world." The Light that
enlightens the world is more than ideas and opinions expressed by
religious leaders. It is the life conformed to Principles, by
which the Realities of Being gained are projected into the life
of the race. The promoters of these Principles are not found in
organized religion, hence, the religious progression of the world
is the measured aspect; while the spiritual progression cannot be
measured nor confined to creeds and societies.
Religion, under a righteous system of living,
is consciousness of Truth. Progression through the various
aspects of church organization, both the Old and the New thought
religious currents, is for the purpose of preparing consciousness
to receive the Truth, though this is accomplished by repudiating
the untruth of these religious currents. Truth is never found in
the worldly organizations, but opens in one freed from
limitations developed on the mortal plane of existence. The goal
of all religious progression is to know the Truth, yet,
paradoxical as it may sound, to become a member of this Universal
Church of Truth, is to cease to be a member of the religious
aspects by which capacity to know the Truth was promoted. It
should be seen, however, that the religious aspects do not
promote the Truth by teaching Truth, but by teaching untruth.
This becomes obnoxious to the seeking spirit, who turning away
from the limited concepts of Life put out by the religionists,
invites knowledge of the unlimited concepts of Life. The
unlimited concepts of Life ultimate as Truth, though Truth is not
something learned through outer things of any nature, but is that
which opens from within the Kingdom of God in the consciousness,
when one has repulsed and mastered the limitations presented on
the outer planes of living.
Educational Progression
The educational possibilities of Chicago are
unlimited. There are colleges and Universities, Schools of Art,
Music, Science, the Armour Institute of Technology, Grammar and
high Schools, Working Homes for Boys and Girls, Manual Training
at orphanages, Schools for the Blind and the Dumb. The total
enrollment for public schools is about 500,000. The Catholic
schools, and their subsidiaries, as embraced by orphanages and
industrial schools, have an enrollment of 216,990. The
universities and colleges have an enrollment of around 35,000.
The Medical, Dental, Theological Seminaries and Law Schools are
distinct in their functioning and attendance, as well as the
Schools of Art, Music, Science, etc.
A charge against the waste in the public school
system of Chicago can be traced to birth control. When providing
school facilities, a declining birth rate was not seriously taken
into consideration. This has caused a vacancy in about five
thousand seats provided for children who were not born. The birth
rate was decreasing in time of prosperity, but since the effect
of the economic pressure has made itself felt the birth rate has
fallen off to a great extent. Enrollment in the lower grades of
school fell off about five thousand in 1932. The teachers of
Chicago, for years before the depression set in, provided out of
their own funds, for free lunches for the children of the poor,
for under our present economical system the children of the poor
are always present. The services rendered by the Chicago teachers
during these years, their receiving compensation at irregular
times, is that associated with teaching. The teaching profession
must contain the spirit of service and fraternity, without which
the real spirit of teaching would be absent.
Education is one of the Seven Rights of Man,
and under a righteous governmental system will be assured every
person until twenty-one years of age; and education for a
profession may continue longer under certain arrangements.
Teachers will be especially qualified in the spirit of service,
as they are expected to be, and compensated at a higher valuation
than possible under our present system of limited finance.
Education is a Right that should pervade all planes of living.
The development of intelligence is something more than external
learning. It is the unfoldment of mental faculties by which the
Mind of the Spirit, by which the Truth is known, is developed.
Until this Mind is enthroned, the race must grow by hard
experience and other methods necessary to develop consciousness,
and to make it capable of being receptive to the innate Laws of
Being governing the real nature of Man. Education, when properly
premised, is promotive of natural talent, as well as preparing
citizens to intelligently live and serve after school days are
finished. The entrance into the great School of Life, the
University of all universities, ought to be attended with
understanding, as well as mental equipment.
The "I Will" Slogan of Chicago
The "I Will" slogan of Chicago had
its inception in 1892. It represents the courage and persistency
of the city consciousness to continue its progress. It is
pictured by a Woman, because as the author of the slogan says,
"Into my head came the old saying, "When a woman will,
she will, you may depend on it, after which he carried out the
ideas that make up the pictured slogan. A woman, wearing a
phoenix with wings outspread for a crown stands erect, in
classical gown, carrying a carpenter's square, and on her wrists
the athlete's leather braces, her face expressing dignity,
strength, poise, and energy. This Chicago slogan is shown in part
in connection with the "Century of Progress" posters.
Back of the head of the woman is that of an Indian, signifying
the spirit of undevelopment and wildness that characterized
Chicago's beginning in 1833. That Chicago would have as a motto,
I Will, is not a happenstance. Centered as the seat of the
capital of the New Order in the Ages, and housing the Throne of
the Higher Laws by which the New Order is brought to pass, and
fitting the action of the Divine Will, its "I Will" is
a perfect counterpart of the spirit standing back of Chicago's
destiny. Yet, the destiny of Chicago is but the central throne by
which the destiny of the whole United States is fulfilled. All
things work out in sequential order that relate to any city or
person destined to fulfil a particular mission. All steps of
progression lead to the culmination of the Plan outlined in the
invisible Principles, by which all outer things are controlled.
The Divine Will demands first the action of the
"I Will." The "I Will" must be as progressive
on its plane as the Divine Will is progressing, before it can be
subjected to the Divine Will and made an agent in its hands
(powers). The zenith of the natural reached is the opportunity
for the beginning of the spiritual; yet, in scientific law the
spiritual is beginning from within and forcing the end of the
natural. The centralization to Chicago of all forces of a higher
nature, culminated in the centralization of the spiritual forces
to Chicago, these becoming the Throne of the Divine Will by which
the work of the "I Will" is crowned with I Am,"
the fruit of the Divine Will. Cities are states of consciousness,
and represent at their highest point, the most advanced states of
consciousness within their borders. It is this high point that becomes
the governing power of the consciousness of a city, as well as
that of the nation, when the Divine Will has superseded the I
Will with Its Power and Presence. That the mass of people are not
aware of this dominancy is of no consequence to the Divine Will
that sets Its Plan for the fulfillment of Its Purpose in
consciousness suitable for this fulfillment.
Highlights About Chicago
Chicago has been under three flags. First, that
of France until 1763, that of Great Britain until 1783, and from
that time under the United States. Chicago is the city that
reversed the flow of its river, causing it to flow away from its
mouth. Chicago is said to be half land and half water. The
"Century of Progress" is built on manmade land though
the fair of 1893 was on natural land. Chicago is the mother of
the skyscraper and the high speed passenger elevators. Chicago
has a few times raised the issue of becoming a separate State;
this would eliminate the jealousy, and agitation that arise
between those performing the governmental duties for the, state,
and those performing the governmental duties for the City of
Chicago, which, because of its vast interests, is of more import
than the whole state.
The idea of Chicago as the new capital of the
United States was envisioned as early as 1885. The idea was given
by direct revelation at the movement of the Divine Will in the
earth in 1922, establishing Chicago not only as the capital of
the United States at the setting up of the New Order, but as the
New Jerusalem center with world wide spiritual influence; though,
necessarily this is not as from the external aspects of Chicago
but from the spiritual powers segregated in the city.
About a century ago a man refused to trade his
pony for forty acres of land, that is now the heart of the city.
Chicago is a great floral city, shipping flowers to all parts of
the country. Chicago, though known as a "windy city"
has a wonderful climate. The winds are invigorating and the lake
tempers the climate in summer so that usually there are few hot
days, and they are tempered with cool breezes at night. Chicago's
health standard is above the average for cities with a population
of over a half million. Chicago has the world's lowest
tuberculosis death rate for large cities. Chicago is the largest
Railroad center in the U.S. Twenty-eight railroads begin and end
in Chicago. In this is a wonderful symbol for its centralizing
the powers of the Divine Laws. One conscious of the relation of
visible things to invisible principles can witness these inner
powers as perfectly as one can see a train on the elevated system
of the city. The "loop" of Chicago is fraught with
invisible powers, and even the noise provides a marked agent of
use, even as the darkness aids the light toward forming the
light. The writer can leave or enter Chicago with her eyes
closed, and know exactly the city limits, because of the marked
invisible forces that invade the consciousness, like a conqueror
who has won a battle!
There are many wonders in Chicago, but the
seven outstanding ones are usually agreed upon, as follows:
First, Boulevards and Park System, including play grounds and
public places; second, Field Museum; third, Art Institute;
fourth, the city itself, its site on the Lake, Municipal Pier and
its indomitable spirit; fifth, Adler Planetarium; sixth, Women's
Organizations and activities; seventh, Institutions of Learning,
Music and Science.
Chicago's Government
Much is said about the government of any large
city, for its government is as complex as the nation's and not
nearly so systematized. The political everywhere breeds
dishonesty and vice because so many people serving the public
have not attained individual consciousness, nor have they
attained any consciousness of country that naturally follows the
attainment of consciousness of oneself. Chicago is no worse,
according to its size, than other cities, but being larger
promotes more of both good and evil, than smaller places. A
certain jealousy has prevailed for years between
"downstate" and Chicago, with bickering legislators
fighting the necessary legislation that particularly relates to
Chicago and its future. This has caused threats of Chicago's
secession from the state and setting itself up as an independent
state.
There is no doubt but that the government of
Chicago can be improved. But this can be said of the whole United
States, therefore, the establishment of Righteous Government at
the capital of the nation, in fundamental principles, and the
application of these principles to all government will heal the
festering sores of government, promoted by partisan politics,
throughout the country. There is no other hope. Energy per capita
and debt per capita are the highest today of all times, and this
is the bane of government, preventing harmonious expression. The
establishment of righteous government, pivoted to the capital of
the government of the United States, and extending in all
directions, will heal the entire nation "in a day."
With sound government established (sound being the opposite of
unsound), the function of government, finance, will also be sound
(which it is not now in spite of all the declarations of
politicians to the contrary). This will be in keeping with the
Immortal Spirit that has moved to establish the New Order in the
Ages in the United States, and to set up the government of the
United States as an Ensign to all nations.
There are 144 city blocks of four acres each in
the Heart of Chicago. This mystical 144 is significant when
spiritually discerned. The four acres are counterparted by the
four departments of consciousness, spirit, soul, mind, and body,
that completed as a State of consciousness identifies the 144
Principles of Being. The United States government abounds with
symbolical representations of inner governing Principles, with
Chicago as its central function, when viewed as a national
consciousness.
A Century of Progress
The celebration of "A Century of
Progress" this year in Chicago, beginning May 27, is a
fitting example of the spirit of the city, "I Will."
This is the year that commemorates a century of progression since
the incorporation of the city, and is the time to celebrate.
Despite the depression (which is now openly recognized), the
preparation for the Century of Progress has gone forward. Many
wonderful buildings of modernistic type, as well as individually
representative of the exhibits housed, have been erected. The
Electrical Building is imposing. At the entrance to the left a
heroic figure of a Woman, entitled "Light," flashing
light through space, symbolizes light as the beginning of all
things. On the right, a companion figure of a Man, entitled
"Energy" is described as "the substance of all
things." Of course, this is exactly opposite to the
underlying Principles, as it would be on the external plane,
where all things are reversed to the governing Laws. For Woman is
the energy, the Will of Being, by which all forms of being are
brought forth, with Man being the penetrating light that causes
form to be manifested. It is the Spirit of Woman, as the Divine
Will, which is the very substance of being, that is exerting its
universal influence at this time. Man is the outer builder, Woman
is the inner gatherer of the essences to be formed and the
fashioner of the form to be. Many electrical marvels will be on
display in the Electrical building.
Besides the buildings erected for the
"Century of Progress," the grounds contain $20,000,000
in permanent buildings: The Adler Planetarium, the Chicago Art
Institute, the Field's Museum of Natural History, the Shedd
Aquarium, the Soldier's Field, and only a short distance, the
Museum of Science and Industry. The exhibits of these buildings
would make for a liberal education, and it is hoped that the
youth of the country may have advantage of this opportunity,
though these permanent buildings remain as an educational
monument to a great city. The many exhibits to be shown at the
Exposition are so depicted as to show the relation they bear to
living, and thus the story of progression is told in a living
way, and is not just a matter of seeing objects of use. Among the
many exhibits will be the "Lincoln Group," the
"Golden Pavilion of Jehol," from China; a model
Hollywood; Admiral Byrd's polar ship; the "City of New
York," the "Sky Ride," and numerous other things
of educational value and entertainment.
The important thing about the "Century of
Progress" is not the outer exhibitions, but is the
centralization of forces of all nations and people to Chicago, in
1933, the pivotal city of the operation of the Divine Laws since
1922. It is as though the Divine Laws, having projected from
center toward circumference, all they had to give, now, by means
of the Exposition, invite a return of the forces to center, for
the next act in the outworking of the New Order in the Ages, with
Chicago to be established as a Central Throne of Power. This is
not accomplished as by the outer forces of this great city, but
as by the underlying Principles that use the symbolical city by
which it builds the real City, the Queen City to be established
as an eternal monument to Man. The lighting of the Exposition
with the light beams traveling from Arcturus typifies the union
of the Light from above with the activities of the earth, and
makes a fitting picture of the Will of Heaven coming into the
earth.
