A short sample follows.

Mark 11:24

Therefore I say unto you, All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

This text contains the fundamental law of prayer. Since all things to be already exist in principles, belief in their being before they are seen is the evidence of faith that makes for their manifestation. To believe that ye receive them indicates omnipresence, there being here and now, but "ye shall have them" implies that they are not present, hence, are to come into manifestation. Through believing that all things are now in principles implies a consciousness, established in Omnipresence, by which what is to be is brought forth now. This is the characteristic of the forth dimensional plane, when consciousness is perfected. Prior to the identification of this plane, egos go through the process of working out the application of these laws on the plane of mortality. Without an opportunity to become conscious of that which is to be on the present plane, it could not come to pass, for no consciousness would be present to function it.

"All things whatsoever ye pray and ask for" qualifies the things as those ye pray and ask for. In other words, the things one prays and asks for are not necessarily the outer things that come to man under the natural law. However, before man can realize this and pray in the spirit, he seeks after the outer things in a prayerful way, this making for consciousness of Laws of God and their presence as controlling factors of consciousness. When egos become spiritualized so as to pray aright, the love of the Spirit directs their prayers and they pray and ask for that which makes for spiritual good. Selfishness prompts prayer for material needs, hence these prayers are more often unheeded. Occasionally, when the spirit that prompts prayer for outer things lifts above the self-desire sufficiently to touch the Selfless Spirit, prayer is answered, though an outer thing seems to be desired. Prayer is of the Spirit and is communion with the Qualities of God within the consciousness. When man shall come to the plane of progression where all things whatsoever he seeks are brought into manifestation, he will seek only that which makes for spiritual good and Truth. Self desires are the obstructions to answered prayers. When one's spirit is right in prayer, which can only be when consciousness is greatly regenerated, prayers are answered; but these prayers are in service to Man and pertain to qualities of Truth expressing.

The counterpartal aspect of prayer in which people pray for all sorts of things, seeing only the literal meaning of this text, is but an objectification of the Law of Prayer. Before the spiritual significance of anything can be to mortality, the delusion is present. This delusion is present as black art or magic in the race. It has its highest form of expression on the New Thought and metaphysical plane. On this plane, many seek only the outer good, thinking that prayer is for the purpose of increasing one's worldly goods and harmonizing one's mortal affairs. "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of world." This scripture is overlooked by those who hold that prayer is for the purpose of manifesting material good to egos. Fortunately, those who become enamored with the material good to be derived through prayerful demonstrations, are cut off from further demonstrations at a certain time, and are made to attain to a greater love and wisdom of God, through added tribulations.

The spiritually progressing egos are cut off from the manifestation of material good through metaphysical prayers because of the death of self-love and desire; but this time of transition is of short duration, and the seeking after the kingdom of God and its righteousness brings the added things on the natural plane without self-effort. Prayers are answered as much on this plane as on any other, though the result of prayer is measured in spiritual qualities gained and not in material results. As one advances, the things he prays and asks for change.

"Believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them," is resented by many pious people of the old school religion. They call it lying to declare as already being what they would have, not discerning that one so acting is conforming to the Law of Omnipresence. To believe now that one receives is to call into expression the action of Omnipresence, in which are all the qualities of Being, and to witness the effect of Divine Law. Realization of belief may be present now, but in this world of mortality, what is called time is often intervenes between the realization and the manifestation of the thing desired or prayed for. Certain obstructions in the without may be dealt with before prayer is answered. Because darkness arises on account of the Light does not imply that the Law is not at work. However, on the forth dimensional plane consciousness will be in eternity and time be no more. Then effects will be instantaneous.

The affirming as already present what one would see manifested conforms to this Law of prayer. When these affirmations pertain to qualities of being, one manifests their fruit as states of conscious advancement. But where these affirmations pertain to outer things, such as selling real estate or buying a house, there may be no evidence of answered prayer. This is because these pertain to the natural plane and are governed in natural law. However, the reduction of the outer things to symbolical ideas, and the affirming of the Truth in connection with the ideas underlying the outer things oftentimes brings results. But, ultimately prayer is of the Spirit and the "all things" pertain to that by which the perfected state of consciousness is brought forth and has little relation to the things of the material world. But, being in the material world, the application of the principles of prayer on this plane must be, else consciousness would not become conscious of the Presence and Power of God. Yet, those who become enamored with the things that super-advancement may produce have not the spiritual love essential to spiritual birth, nor do they attain quickly to that plane of being where the kingdom of God and its righteousness are first sought. The manifestation of good by means of laws pertaining to the Spirit if for the purpose of developing love and wisdom and not for the purpose of causing man to become enamored with the world of materiality and its things.
